Today, we are going to discuss about 22 things You Did not know your Google Chromecast Could Do.
Google makes your online life simpler, from news and digital maps to email and online storage. But the Chromecast also allows it to control your TV.
Chromecast Ultra as well as ChromecastGoogle TV and Google Chromecast are the two models of Google’s media streaming device that are currently available for purchase. With the addition of a remote control and an on-screen menu, the latter gave Google’s dongle a much-needed makeover. Despite the fact that the Chromecast has been available since 2013, many people probably still use older devices to cast. Many of today’s top smart TVs already have it functional.
Whatever content you choose to “cast,” the Chromecast is portable and simple to use; after plugging it in and connecting to Wi-Fi, you can immediately stream Netflix, Spotify, HBO Max, Hulu, and other services to the TV from your phone or computer. You can also use the Chromecast to access music, fitness, and sports apps.
Google’s line of streaming dongles goes by the name Chromecast. You can stream and cast content like movies or music to your TV using streaming devices, which are pieces of hardware that connect to your TV and the internet.
What is the Chromecast process?
Consider a Chromecast if you want to watch Stranger Things or The Crown at home in full screen for the ultimate home theatre experience. To get the most out of your viewing time, you can put your content up on the big screen using a protocol called Google Cast.
1. Be unique.
Google TV displays user profiles and names.
You share a lot of things with the people you love, but perhaps not your preferences in films and television shows. With Google TV on your Chromecast, each member of your family can keep their watchlists—and, more importantly, their recommendations—separate. Select your profile from the Google TV home page. Choose “Add Account.” Select the streaming services you want to link to the profile after signing into the Google account you want to add and responding to the profile setup questions.
2. Stop Worrying About Your Watchlist
A woman is seen holding a white Chromecast remote over a coffee table with decorative items on it.
Simply press the Google Assistant button on the side of the remote and ask to see your watchlist rather than navigating through menus.
3. Report ItA couple are sitting on separate couches in the living room. She is using her phone as the TV remote while holding it up.
The Google Home app (Android(Opens in a new window), iOS(Opens in a new window), or the Google TV app (Android(Opens in a new window), can still be used to navigate on your screen if you’ve misplaced your Chromecast remote in the couch cushions. Turn on your TV, then launch the app to use Google Home. Choose Google TV, then click on Open Remote. Turn on the TV and then launch the Google TV app. Choose your device, then select Remote, then Scanning for Devices. Then, follow the on-screen directions.

4. Increase the Number of Meetings
We hate to mention video meetings, but if you’re sick of staring at them on a tiny screen, you can turn them into entertainment by bringing them to your TV. You can continue to use your computer for the camera, microphone, and audio during your Google Meet meetings. Open your meeting using Google Calendar or the Meet app, then choose “Cast this meeting” after downloading the Meet app. In the Cast tab, you can select the Cast device you want to use. Click Stop Casting Meeting from the three-dot menu to end casting.
5. Display Google Slides on Your TV
Because Google Cast is a feature of Chrome, you can use Google Slides to display your presentation using Chromecast. Choose Present on another screen and on your Chromecast device by clicking the Present option in the top-right corner of your presentation.
On devices running Android 5.0 and higher, screen casting is supported(opens in a new window) if you want your Android screen to appear on the TV for work or entertainment (sorry, iPhone users). The screenshot above was taken from a OnePlus 5T, though your results may vary depending on the smartphone you own. Open the Google Home app, select your Chromecast, then select Cast Screen from the bottom-most menu. As soon as you’re done, tap Stop mirroring.
7. Add Google TV and Apple TV.In conjunction with Google TV and Apple TV+
You don’t have to join the conflict if you have a Chromecast with Google TV, despite the intense rivalry between Apple and Google. You can find the Apple TV app, which includes Apple TV+, in the Apps section of your home screen. It is the type of cordial cooperation that you would see on Ted Lasso.
8. Remove Buffering Using a Chromecast Ethernet Adapter
A strong Wi-Fi connection is necessary for the Chromecast to deliver buffer-free streams of Netflix, YouTube, and other content from mobile devices to your TV. But not everyone has a lightning-fast Wi-Fi connection. For those who don’t, Google offers a $20 Ethernet adapter for Google TV and the Chromecast. (A comparable adapter for older models of Chromecasts has been out of stock for a while.)
The adapter has a plug end with a small Ethernet port, but it has the same appearance as the current Chromecast power cord. You can then plug in the USB end of the adapter into the Chromecast, connect the Chromecast to the HDMI port on your TV, and connect an Ethernet cable that is also connected to your modem to that port.
9. The Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music apps feature a “casting” icon for music to your TV.
Why not use your impressive sound system to listen to your favourite music if it is connected to your TV? Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music are just a few of the streaming services that support Chromecast. Verify that your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast, then choose it from the list that appears by finding the More Devices button or Chromecast icon. Disconnect from the Google Home app or your music app.
10. Chromecast Guest Mode
You might want to let your guests choose what to watch without giving them access to your Wi-Fi, whether they are overnight party guests or house guests for a week. On older Chromecast models, select Guest Mode (it opens in a new window). (Chromecast with Google TV doesn’t offer Guest Mode.) Toggle Guest Mode on by opening the Google Home app, selecting your Chromecast, tapping the settings cog in the top right corner, and then scrolling down to it.

When visitors want to cast something, they can tap the cast icon in a compatible app, choose a nearby device, and then enter the four-digit PIN that appears on the TV or that you give them.
11.Don’t Track Don’t Track
Since the Chromecast only serves as a content delivery device, it is impossible to completely disable tracking, but you can restrict the data that it sends to Google. Find a setting that mentions sending device statistics and crash reports to Google in the Settings menu of your Chromecast device, and turn it off.
12. Increase the Chromecast’s background with photos.
With Ambient Mode, you can change the background of your Chromecast. You can use your own photos or pick from Google’s collection of artwork, landscape photography, and satellite images(opens in a new window). Tap the Chromecast icon in the Google Home app. Go to Ambient Mode by tapping the gear icon and scrolling down. Here, you can select whether Google Photos images or a gallery of carefully selected images and artwork should be shown on your Chromecast. To switch to a low-bandwidth mode, tap Experimental. Additionally, you can choose how quickly the Chromecast cycles through each image and add the weather and time to the display.
Similar to how Chromecast can replace outdated slide shows without a projector, it can also be used to stream video. You can cast your photos from Google Photos on iOS, Android, and the PC to your TV thanks to Chromecast support(opens in a new window). To connect, locate the Cast icon in the Google Photos app’s top bar and tap it.
13.Where is the remote control? Nothing matters.
You must change the input on your TV to switch between the cable box, the Chromecast, and whatever else is in your home entertainment system because the Chromecast plugs into a port on the device. However, if your TV is compatible with HDMI-CEC, it will automatically upgrade as soon as you press the cast button on a compatible app—no traditional remote control is required.
If your TV is compatible with it, navigate to the settings menu, choose the HDMI-CEC option, and turn it on. Some TV manufacturers may refer to it by a different name; Google provides a list here(opens in a new window). Keep in mind that your Chromecast cannot be powered by the TV’s USB port; it needs to be plugged into a wall outlet.

15. Listen with headphones
Chromecast with Google TV includes Bluetooth support, which you can access in the Remote & Accessories section of the Google TV home screen (note that some stability issues have been reported(opens in a new window)). This is useful if you want to watch something on TV but don’t want the sound to bother other people.
Try LocalCast for Chromecast if you have an older Chromecast device (opens in a new window). While keeping audio on your device, it enables you to cast video to your television. On the Now Playing screen, select Route audio to the phone. Then, connect some headphones. The developer cautions that there might be bugs because this LocalCast feature has long been in beta. However, the app is free, so it’s worth a try when you need to reduce noise.
16. Ask Google Assistant for assistance.
The Chromecast’s included remote control Press the Google Assistant button on Google TV to conduct voice searches or request that the virtual assistant open compatible apps. Connect your older Chromecast to your Google smart home devices, such as a Nest display, and then ask Google to play Stranger Things on Netflix by saying “OK Google” (Opens in a new window). Additional compatible services include YouTube TV, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max.

17. A Chromecast screen that lets you choose a kid-friendly theme for your content is coming soon.
households that use ChromecastParents don’t have to worry about their children engaging in unsupervised screen time thanks to Google TV’s ability to create separate profiles for each child. Parents can choose a theme, control screen time, and specify which apps (including YouTube Kids) their children can use. “Your kids will be greeted with three countdown warning signs when it’s almost time to turn off the TV, before a final ‘Time is up’ screen appears and ends their watch time,” Google says (Opens in a new window). Parents can PIN-protect their own profiles because children are smart.
18. Create a YouTube TV Queue.
The only annoying aspect of using a Chromecast to watch YouTube is having to constantly pick up and put down your device in order to watch new videos. Or would you? Open the YouTube app, select your Chromecast device by tapping the Cast button, and then select a video to watch. You’ll be presented with a pop-up box with the choice of playing the video now or adding it to your queue. Put as many videos in your queue as you want to watch, then sit back and relax. To view or edit your upcoming video choices, tap the upward-pointing arrow at the bottom of the screen.
19. Cast Plex to Chromecast
One of the main issues with the Chromecast is that it doesn’t support local media playback, preventing you from accessing cloud-based content. However, you can stream music, movies, and photos using the Chromecast thanks to the media management app Plex (opens in a new window). You can watch your dispersed content on tablets, TVs, phones, and other devices thanks to Plex. Create an account(opens in a new window), download and launch the Plex app, then send content to the Chromecast.
20.Stadia Game Streaming
Google Stadia-compatible devices
You can play console-and PC-quality games on your phone, in a Chrome browser tab, or on your TV with a supported streaming device using the Google Stadia streaming platform. At first, that meant a Chromecast Ultra, but in June 2021, Google enhanced the Chromecast with Google TV to include Stadia support(Opens in a new window) to expand the options for big-screen gaming.
21. Rent DVDs from Vudu (for a fee)
You can use Vudu to convert old media to new if you have stacks and stacks of DVDs but no equipment with which to play them, or if you simply prefer the convenience of streaming. Open a new window to download the Vudu app for iOS or Android, then log in or create an account. Scan the UPC code from the disc by going to the menu and choosing Disc to Digital. Then, for a fee of $2 for standard definition titles and $5 for high definition titles, you can stream your DVDs on the Vudu app on Chromecast.
22. Chromecast Preview Program
You should sign up for the Chromecast Preview Program if spoilers don’t deter you (opens in a new window). It provides you with the most recent Chromecast features prior to their general release. According to Google, the software is only a preview of stable features and not a beta version.
Open the Google Home app on your iOS or Android device to register. Scroll down to Preview Program after tapping your Chromecast and the gear icon in the top-right corner. Accept to receive emails about new features by selecting it and tapping Join Program. Return to this page and select “Leave Program” to withdraw your consent.
The simplicity and expediency of the setup procedure for Google Chromecast is one of its best features (check out our guide on how to set up Google Chromecast). You’re ready to go if you have a WiFi network, a phone or tablet, and a TV with an HDMI port (though there is a way to use Chromecast without WiFi, too).
